July was a milestone month for SFOF, and I wanted to personally thank you for being part of it.

This month, we partnered with Open the Books to release one of the most significant research projects in our organization’s history, uncovering more than $225 million in confirmed K-12 education fraud across 24 states and Puerto Rico.

The report quickly gained national traction and reinforced a principle that guides everything we do: accountability works.

We also brought together state financial officers to advance healthcare price transparency, urged action to help reunite Americans with nearly $39 billion in unclaimed U.S. savings bonds, and continued highlighting the important work state financial officers are leading to protect taxpayers in their states.

The DOJ’s National Fraud Enforcement Division announced unprecedented fraud enforcement actions across the Southeast—17 cases spanning seven states and more than $350 million in intended losses—built on federal-state partnerships that our state financial officers helped lead. Florida CFO Blaise Ingoglia, Mississippi Auditor Shad White, Mississippi Treasurer David McRae, North Carolina Auditor Dave Boliek, and South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis all stood alongside federal prosecutors at the 2026 Southeast Fraud Enforcement Partnership event. When state financial officers bring their expertise to the fight against fraud, taxpayers win.
