At SFOF our mission is to drive fiscally sound public policy and educate Americans on the role of responsible financial management in a free market economy. We work with state financial officers all around the country — State Treasurers, Auditors, and more — to safeguard the financial interests of the American people. An issue that is a significant threat to the American way of life is viewpoint discrimination in the form of debanking.

This form of debanking is when a bank or financial institution shuts off access to capital to a person or business who has a viewpoint they disagree with. Sometimes it can come without warning, explanation, or reason. This form of debanking has nothing to do with illegal activity from the person or business, but everything to do with a viewpoint that the big banks don’t like.

Debanking is a threat to our free market economy. It is a threat to free speech. When banks can cut off your access to capital simply because they don’t like the work of your legal business, nonprofit, or religious institution, or they do not like what you say about the 2nd amendment, President Trump, your faith in God, or your love for this country, it sends a chilling message of censorship that is totally and completely un-American.

It’s why President Trump has come out against it. And so have we. Having launched this fight almost a year ago during the Biden Administration, we are ready to go on offense. We are fighting back.
